Electric Shock Treatment

Postby bdxgirl » Sun Apr 15, 2018 12:40 pm

Hello, I have suffered from depression and self harm for 5 years now and during this time I have had quite a lot of shock treatment. The last was 3 weeks ago. They say that memory loss is short term and comes back after time. This isn’t the case for me I have forgotten so much I feel as though I have lost a whole chunk of my life. I can’t remember holidays with my children, names of my family and even directions when I am driving to places I know really well. This is getting me down when I am already low but I din’t Seeem to be able to get any help for it. Has anyone else had similar experiences after shock treatment?

Hello bdxgirl,

Gosh that must be pretty distressing. I've never had ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) but I am aware of the memory loss people suffer. Did it happen before your last treatment too (before 3 weeks ago)? Are you still thinking to continue with it? I'd be weighing up the pros and cons. At least have a break from it, see if your memories come back.

Best Wishes,
Peace
