I wonder why SANE removed the PM facility? I expect the members would appreciate an explanation from moderators.

If any moderators could give a brief reason for the PM being removed would be appreciated.
Do it...Afraid.

I'm OK thank you Lu.
I don't really like New Year because it dredges up memories of the past and worries about the future.
Trying to ignore it as much as I can.
I wish they would bring back the PM because it's so hard to talk about some stuff isn't it?
Please take good care of yourself Lu.

If Sane had been concerned about users wishes they would not have closed the PM system. Basically closing it showed a contempt for those who post here and a lack of commitment to the future of these forums. It is interesting to note that black dog tribe, that Sane heavily promotes, has messaging. One has to ask 'is there a difference between this forum's users and BDT'S that warrants the latter having messaging or is there something more cynical and negative going on?
As it is we now have two forums with fairly low participation(At BDT, despite having heavy publicity ,the forums are used even less than these).
Sane would have been better focussing it's limited resources on improving these forums. As it is people now have two sub par forums to choose from.
Given that i care about people having access to good forums for support I feel the need to point out there are better forums for general and specific mental health support, and that people would be advised to join one of these.
http://www.rethink.org/talk (general)
http://www.mentalhealthforum.net/ (general)
http://www.mentalearth.com/ ( general)
http://www.social-anxiety-community.org/db/index.php (social anxiety)
http://forum.schizophrenia.com/ (schizophrenia and related disorders)
http://www.bipolaruk.org.uk/e-community/ (bipolar)

If anyone knows of others please post them.

One thing that might help is active moderator participation in topics as occurs at Rethink talk. As it is it's as though the moderators only function is to make often bad decisions and be as distant and remote as possible. One thing the mods could do is promote new topics to foster discussion and increased forum participation.

Although i wasn't a heavy user of PMs i too hope Sane eventually sees sense and restores the system. However i am sceptical that this will happen without a massive change in attitude and commitment by those that run Sane.
So far the signs aren't good.
