I have just listened to a podcast on the ACE study.

The ACE study linked a vast number of physical and social ailments in adults to traumatic childhood experiences. This includes the obvious stuff such as morbid obesity and drug addiction but also suggests that the changes in the brain and hormone production linked to childhood trauma can lead to increased susceptibility to various physical diseases including cancers.
I found it really interesting in validating my own beliefs about the need to treat the MH causes of a number of physical and social ills. I also found it interesting that this view appears controversial. The podcast discusses some reasons why many people, including sufferers, dismiss MH as a cause. I was disappointed that these discussions did not include my belief that ego plays a massive part in this (I am better than... ) . It is also much easier to believe that MH issues are the result of a character flaw because then you can say 'It will never happen to me.'
