Just need someone to talk to

hi , im wondering if you could offer me some advice, im having some issues at the minute. im not sure if im depressed but currently my life seems to be changing around me and there seems to be little I can do about it which is causing me to drink heavily, im new to this website and wondered if you had any advice for me please. all my friends have gone off to university and I've decided to resit my year before applying to university, I don't really want to seek help with a specialist until I have some idea what's wrong with me and also all of the stigma with getting help and it being on your records and everyone then judges you as unstable. I feel awful as ive made my best friend cry today due to her being concerned and I know i probably shouldn't be turning to drink as a solution, but it helps me forget my issues and problems atm, please someone just say something. anything is better than nothing.

Welcome to the forum.

Firstly know that you are welcome here and there are many supportive members here.
I am sorry to read what you’re going through at the moment; you must feel so confused, worried and low at the moment, at times not being fully aware why?. As well as possibly feeling lonely and isolated as your friends have now gone to university.

If you have just started to turn to drink to cope, try first to talk about how you’re feeling on here. Only talk about what you feel comfortable with at the moment. You won’t be judged, or treated differently in any way, just supported and listened to.

Do you feel you could talk about what you feel could be the changes around you that’s causing you to feel this way?
Remember this is a safe place for you to express how you feel and the thought you struggle with any time you wish to. You have made the first step to self help.

emma, i'm sorry that you're finding it hard to cope, but one thing you need to be aware of is that alcohol is a depressant: it might help temporarily, but it's likely to drive you into a cycle of drinking to feel better, then feeling worse because of the after-effects of the alcohol so you drink to feel better etc. See your doctor, and try to avoid using alcohol to cope, hugs xxx
