In the UK it's disgusting when people with mental illness are not getting appointments and proper help from services.
When I have been in hospital I have seen staff sitting doing nothing at all for hours they have had the time to sit and watch the TV or even play on there mobile phone and they then say they are run off their feet no way not a chance.
Patients (that's us they forget about) are left with nothing to do and just wait to speak with the doctors who don't want to tell us anything yet say they want to see us it's pathetic.
When you don't get any visitors the staff will say is no one coming to see you then when you do get a visitor the staff say they can't stop long.
When is the mh services going to get their finger out and help us people propley and stop saying all different things.
It really does get to me how people with mental illness are always treated worse than others in hospitals and in the community.
If there is anyone on here who reads this who works in mh services and don't like what they are reading well I'm afraid it's tough because I don't like how people with mental illness are treated by services.

I'm in hospital right now. I just want to die. I feel the Staff here are good, some from other departments are exceptional.
Remember the NHS Mental Health Services are bottom of the list when it comes to funding.
I feel they try the best with what they have.
I've been in Services all my life and it's took a very long time but I finally feel I have Support, they are good therapists and also
good people. It doesn't change how Suicidal I feel and the fact I probably will die soon.
But I wanted you to know there are good professionals out there.
I messed my life up, I'm my own worst enemy, I finally have good Support, but I feel it's too late for me.
It might not be for you - do not tar everyone with the same brush.
I wish you all the best.

I get why you're annoyed, and lots of people share that same sentiment. Bottom line is, waiting for hours for an appointment isn't good enough, and that's partially why we're all having a big conversation about healthcare in the UK. However, we might complain, but there are many across the world who envy what we have - an accessible, single-payer healthcare that despite the fears, actually manages to hold up fairly well for the most part. That's not to say that things can't improve, but let's take stock of what we've already got!

But I don't think it's fair to pin all the blame on the staff. If you speak to those working in the NHS, you'll find that most people there don't like how this system works either - the staff turnover speaks for itself. In fact, those staff who don't seem like they care are actually more similar to patients than you might think. I know that getting angry at them feels right because they're the ones who are meant to treat patients, right? But a little perspective shows that that anger is misguided and unfairly placed on those who are the only reason the NHS still manages to run every day :)

Everytime i say about how I have been failed by staff in services someone else will say how it's not their fault I've been told by the service near me I was failed by them. I also don't get why people know how shocking the suicide rate is in the UK alone but people will still say it's not due to the NHS well I'm not the only one who reads it on the news etc and sees the reviews of what people with mental illness are writing. How many people on here have mentioned about waiting times and not getting help I'm not the only one. As to say don't tarnish them all with the same brush well I had staff in services say to me all people with mental illness are the same they don't want to help themselves and this is what I got said to me from different staff it's not the horrible comment they should say but they do the staff need to be understanding. Why are there forums and sites with people who have mental illness still suffering etc and saying that they can't get help etc from services it's out there to read. I'll give credit where credit is due but I won't pretend the staff and services are doing a job well done when you're failed by the very people who should have helped.

I was in hospital on occasions and was told I didn't need to be there when I actually did due to my mh and in a and e was told we have people who are ill omg forgive me for breathing and having mh then I'll go end my life somewhere else and leave the hospital's full of poor people lying on trolleys in corridors while staff ignore them something else on the news for everyone to read.

Hi
I agree with lot that has been said there some good and some bad mental health team professionals out there.

It's easy for the doctor and mental health to give you medication but it's also very important just to listen and have a chat. Medication alone does not help, a person needs someone to talk to, someone to make sure you are eating and drinking properly and someone just to lend a shoulder to cry on regardless of whether you are a male or female. Someone who can sit and listen and help you find your way through all the hundreds of questions and thoughts that are going through your mind......Medication alone will never help a person going through mental health. People tend to forget that behind mental illness ....there is a person. Look at the person first not the illness.
