Cats and birds.

Postby stressed » Sun Apr 21, 2013 5:27 pm

I'm feeling really down about this. I didn't feel like I could should post this in the safe room because it feels so trivial.
I have two cats who I love very much. I am also lucky to have many wild birds nesting in my garden.
I don't know how to protect the fledglings from my cats, without resorting to keeping my cats indoors from April to July. A bell isn't much use, when a fledgling can't fly.
I know the cats are just doing what comes naturally, but it's really getting me down now.
I just spent the whole weekend building a beautiful wildlife pond, and it just all seems so pointless now.
I know our cats really annoy the neighbors, they love their garden and the birds too.
I don't want to p*ss them off, but I really don't know what I can do.

How about ring the local vet, RSPCA or Cats Protection League.
I'm sure this must be a common problem and they will have some ideas to help.
I know it's just cats doing what they do but it's not very nice is it?
Even worse when they are so proud of their achievements and pressies they offer up!
Hope you can get something sorted.
xx

oh stressed my sweet ,sweet love
xx
it is not trivial at all.i myself have 2 cats and its a bloody nightmare! as reguards to cats/mice all sorts
Winston used to steal the fish from my neighbours pond  which made me slightly unpopular
once Winston was in a neighbours garden and he killed a bird in front of their grand children!!!!
we tried to explain nicely that we cannot sit our cats down and ask them not to do it again!!!!
I have not yet found a way of stopping Winston from killing birds-it is simply in their nature to do so
I shall google and see if I can find some tips on how to prevent cats stalking and killing birds

Good find Lu.
When my dear cat was alive I'd love to have seen the look on her face having to wear one of those for outings into the wild!
'One is not amused' springs to mind!
And 'This is just not my colour darling'!!
Seriously it's a great idea and I really hope it works for your cats stressed.

Exactly - they can be such divas!
I know it's what they do, but live and let live I say.

Hummm.... you like taking risks then Lu?
I imagine he would object big time!
It's such a clever idea though.
