Re: Employment advice for history of depression

In terms of not getting interviews - it is worth bearing in mind that unemployment is high at the moment and it is taking everyone longer than usual to find work. I suppose the best thing is to focus on your strengths and skills in your application - really sell the things you can do and be confiden...

Re: Another horrible day in a long run of horrible days

I'm on citalopram at the moment. I've been on it before and it can help a little in how I feel, but doesn't seem to have much practical effect on anything I do (I guess that's down to me) and the side effects are pretty horrendous, well, annoying anyway - weird considering that everyone else I've sp...

Re: Another horrible day in a long run of horrible days

Thanks mld for your reply. Sometimes the shortest can still say a lot. The funny thing is that for years and years, since I was at school, I thought I couldn't tell anyone about what I was feeling and the thoughts I was having because they might stop me doing my exams, or later they might tell me I ...

Re: On the edge - help me please

You mentioned that a doctor has said that you have never had clinical depression and no longer need any assistance. This has been recently encountered as a problem in assessments for people with mental health problems receiving Employment Support Allowance. Because mental health problems can vary wi...

In a slightly less wallowy mood, so I'm changing the subject

I'm feeling pretty rough at the moment so I'm just writing this to try and get things out of my system. So sorry for the length. I finally got to the GP yesterday to explain all the problems I've been having for the last few months. I sat in the waiting room with tears pouring down my cheeks for abo...

Advocacy - how useful?

Hi all, another question, moving on from the ESA question I asked before. I've been advised by a mental health charity that I should think about getting an advocate to help me deal with my university, who I'm on leave from, bank and student loans company, who are all being massively difficult about ...

The first time you noticed

I just wondered if people wanted to describe the first time they remember doing or feeling something that, looking back on it now, they know was one of the first signs of the problems they have now, whether that is behavioural or mental health issues. I find that this helps because tracing it back t...

advice on employment support allowance

Hi all. I'm writing this because after a really bad few days I'm starting to think it's not realistic for me to be applying for jobs right now. I was hoping that people who have claimed could tell me about their experiences of employment and support allowance, since for all I know it works out as ev...

Re: job seeker advise please

I just got my first payment in today and I applied about 2 1/2 weeks ago. If you're worried call them up right away or they may lost track.

Passing the time listening to the engaged tone

Hi, just want to introduce myself while I wait for a free line. I'm 22, female and have suffered from depression and anxiety problems most of my life. After having to take a year out of my degree, I've been going through a rough few months. In the last couple of days things have got really bad after...
