Help us buy more time to give more people with mental health problems the support they need. By making a gift to SANE today you could help us give reliable help to individuals and families before they reach crisis point.
You may have notice that there seems to be much talk about mental health these days - on the television, in the news. Here at SANE we are witnessing a worrying increase in cases of self-harm, suicide and particularly amongst our younger callers, depression.
At SANE we believe that successful treatment of illnesses like depression depends on time - time being listened to by a professional, time enough to feel understood. Despite this, many callers report sporadic and snatched moments given by health professionals. Indeed a recent report found that the average consultation length with a GP in the UK is just eleven minutes.
SANE will give as long as is needed. With no time limit to calls to our helpline service SANEline we offer people the rare but fundamental opportunity to work through a crisis - through problems and difficulties - however complex and intolerable they may appear. SANEline gives on average 158 hours each week to callers in crisis. Not only are our volunteers skilled at guiding callers through times of extreme, sometimes life-threatening, emergencies but also giving confidence and practical information connecting people into their local services and support groups.
Through SANEline, we are continuing to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the treatment people are allocated and the time and type of support they really need. However, we are still only able to answer just under half of the calls we receive, which is why we’re asking for your help.
Please support SANEline today and help us buy time to give more people support, empathy and the confidence to find a way forward.
